LAKE

BESSIE DAY NICHOLS (Nov 9,1889 - Dec 11,1967) married EDWIN ORLANDA LAKE (Mar 12,1887 - Oct 10,1975), son of Dr. William Eligia Lake and Julia A. Schroder. They were married Dec 19,1906 at St. Luke's parsonage by Rev. S.P.Koon.
She was born at the old Elishia Schumpert place near Bush River at the Schumpert Mill place. She joined church and went to school at St. Luke's. As a teen age girl Bessie was a organist at St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
After marriage she and her husband lived at Edwin's father's old home place. He operated for a number of years a farm at this place and two other farms, one of which Bessie inherited from her father's estate, and the other which was bought from his father. Their son, Charles, now owns the latter and has been successful growing turkeys by the thousands.
Her husband, Edwin, was always interested in growing fruits, vegetables, cows (both dairy and beef), and general farming. He had his bees too. He always got a thrill out of giving visitors samples of honey and produce from his farm. They had 6 children:

  2. LOIS EDNA LAKE born Mar 1,1912 married Claude William Dominick. They had one child: Claude Lake Dominick
  3. CHARLES JACOB LAKE born June 13,1914 married Annie Evelyn Kunkle born Nov 27,1919. They had 3 children: Beverly, Kenneth, and Laura Day
  4. EDWIN SCHROEDER LAKE (Oct 15,1916 - Dec 11,1995) married Sarah Lee Hughes born Sept 17,1917. They had one child: Julia Schroeder Lake
  5. CLYDE NICHOLS LAKE (Jan 28,1919 - Feb 3,1986)
  6. WALTER THOMAS LAKE born July 6,1923 married Dorothy Annelle Ruff born Nov 11,1923. They had 2 children: Susan Annelle and Walter Thomas Lake,Jr.

Family Court Judge, Eighth Judicial Circuit, 1977 serving continuously since with planned retirement July 6,1988.
